What is this lever shotgun???

I've seen it before but can't remember what the heck it is. R.A. on the side of the action. I want to say it's european and not worth much here in the US. Anyone able to help me out?[8D]

    the only other lever shot gun i've seen is in the movie termanator and i've been looking to get one for awhile.

    The "R.A." is, in reality, a stylized "W.R.A.Co.". That stands for Winchester Repeating Arms Company:

    See it clear as day now....on yours.[8D] The obvious refinish on this 10ga. barely left the RA visible.

    You are not alone in your original query. I must say that if you are trying to link together families of guns, the 1887 looks, and operates, so very differently than anything else that Winchester offered that anyone could have missed the connection. The 1887 is quite unique. The stylized initials are, likewise, unique to the 1887. I think that the impression of those letters is shallow enough that a zealous buffer could easily remove them.

    Hang on to what you have. It is a nice piece of history.[:)]

    You might want to check, but that might be a 1901, as it is a 10 gauge. Supposedly the 1901 was made in 10 gauge only, and was a strengthened version of the 1887, made for use with smokeless powder. The serial number could help determine that, and so could Bert H.

    Bert, the serial number is 31853. This fellow didn't own anything he couldn't shoot and with the fiber optic sights added I'm certain he used this one. Widow brought tons of ammo and there were plenty of 10ga. in it.

    The 1901 has a two piece lever and I believe all were blued vs. color case on receiver. Both 1887 and 1901 came in 10ga. The 1887 should use only black powder shells. I use 10ga. ammunition from Old Western Scrounger in mine that's made in England with Winchester components.

    Norinco makes a short barreled version in 12ga. I obtained one here on GB for <$400.00.

    According to the blue book and serial number it's an 1887 made in 1891. Guess he didn't know or care because he was shooting modern 10ga through it regularly.

    James... he was a real lucky fellow[:0]!

    The serial number does tell us that it is a Model 1887. All of the original Winchester Model 1887 10 gauge guns were chambered for a 2-7/8" shell. How he was able to get a modern shell to feed in it is beyond my comprehension.
