257 H wildcat?

I picked up a nice commercial sporter Mauser that was in 250-3000 and has been overstamped 257 H. I am going to make a chamber cast when I get a chance but was wondering if anyone has heard of a 257 H. Thanks, Don

  This is starting to sound like a broken record but I'm nowhere near my reference books and notes so I'm just proposing an alternative.
  
  I'm not aware of a particular wildcat with the initial 'H' following the term '257'. Now that doesn't mean that there couldn't be one in this wide world but I'm not remembering one right now. Considering that every gunsmith in every little town across America has at one time or another claimed to have invented the next new wildcat, it could exist somewhere.
  
  The notation for the .257 Roberts has been shortened to .257R occasionally. It's possible that the answer is when the letter 'R' was stamped that the top part of the 'R' didn't get the full impact on the round barrel leaving an open space at the top of the letter, letting it look somewhat like an 'H' depending on the font being used.
  
  I'm sure that there are other explanations lurking out there so maybe they'll come forth now.

  Could it be a .257 Herter's? I've never seen a Herter's with just an "H" stamped on the barrel, but........
  
  If that's not it either my next guess would be to think maybe Nononsense had it right off the bat
