Registered guns

Is there any way a person can determine what guns are registered to him after 40 years of swapping, selling, trading, etc? Many transactions in my state dont require any paperwork. Some do. I dont have a clue what guns are still on record as belonging to me, or what guns I have are recorded as belonging to someone else. Is is worth pursuing? Is there anywhere to check it?

    I say no. There is a difference between actual registration and records of purchase. From a LEO standpoint its about useless to find out who the original purchaser of a firearm is cause most guns used in crimes are usually stolen anyway.

    If you really want, you can always call your local PD and ask them if the serial number on the gun was ever put into their database for any reason. And you can always "declare it" if you want, which I don't see what the point would be.

    It depends on your city/county/state. In most places that require a dealer to get approval before permitting the transfer, they may still have that information. Whether or not they can find it, no one knows.

    It is unlikely that your city/county/state will tell you, unless you are in one of those places like that requires that you have every gun you own "listed" on your permit.

    In Florida there is no paper work required for private sale. I always give and get a recite with buyers/sellers Info and the SN of the gun, even when I sell or buy from one of my brothers

    I'm glade i have never lived somewere were guns had to be registered. hopefully i can keep it that way.

    Not to be flip, but you can ensure that your guns are never registered.

    In Mass you can get a list of guns that are registered to you through the state and $20.00 or so.

    Hello JimmyJack - I could be wrong about this, but in Pennsylvania I believe the State Police are specifically prohibited from creating just such a database/list from the 4473 instant check information. Our governor and his old buddies in Phila. have also been skulking around with a per weapon/annual tax scheme that would make such a list very "useful" to them. GoodLuck - RounderRick

    I recently over heard a fellow say that he had no firearms that were on record to him. He said he sold them to different people a year before their obituary was listed in the newspaper.

    What a great idea! I think I will sell all my guns to dead people too. Wait, I think that all my guns were in the canoe when it capsized, and they all went to the bottom of the lake.
    No one should ever own a gun that is traceable to him, IMHO. I have passed on several good deals because the seller wanted to "see ze papers". NOBODY is entitled to a copy of my driver's license, or fingerprints, or a receipt with my name and address when I buy a gun. I believa all firearm transactions should be anonymous--anything less violates my conscience.

    Kansas doesn't require registration ... my only registered guns are NFA class III
