Reload Brass Blanks???

Is it possible to safely reload blank brass with bullets? Does the neck crimp make this not doable?[8D]

    Usually, answer is no.

    You would have to trim each case down to factory specs. Blank ammo is loaded with cases using longer brass so that heavy crimping can be used to secure the wad.

    Don't they have a different bottom too?

    The primer looks a lot different anyways.

    I have reloaded Israeli 7.62 blanks by changing the powder and seating a projectile. They work just fine.

    IF you are bored enough and have quality brass blanks to start with it can be done. Its very time consuming to remove the crimped neck and trim the case to length. A two step trimming process is a must or was for me. I abandonded the project after I found better use for my time!

    Depends on the blank. I've reloaded .32 Smith and Wesson black powder blanks; they just had a crimp over a cardboard wad. Shoot the blank, it unrolls the crimp, and the shell can be reloaded just fine. Other blanks might have a star crimp that may or may not open enough to resize.

    Thanks. I was wondering only because I have access to somme .223, 7.62x39 and 308 blanks and was curious if I could do better than sell them as scrap. My primary concern was the safety issue. With Obama now requiring surplus brass be destroyed, I thought this could be a source of 223 and 308 brass for me since I am on the field when it is expended and I usually pick the brass up anyway. I'll give it a shot with a few rounds. If brass really becomes scarce, it may be worth my while to work it.

    Be careful, sometimes the brass doesn't have the same case wall thickness and might not meet spec to actually handle the pressure that a normal cartridge does. Let alone may be a different alloy of brass that is less expensive to produce for the mfg. To answer your question in the most general way possible, NO!!!

    You need to catch up on your reading since this problem has been resolved. There have been a dozen posts on GD and an equal number on every website that deals with firearms.
