Why is it I continually see 32WCF rifels advertised as 32-20 when there totally two different lingths and A 32-20 will not feed in a 32 WCF

Hello the 22Winchester Centerfire and 22 hornet are different cartridges the 25-20 Winchester centerfire and the 25-20 singleshot are different cartridges but the 32-20 Winchester Centerfire introduced in 1888 for the winchester model 1873 is the same as the 32-20 we have today just one was loaded with Black powder and today is loaded with smokeless . I am confused where do you get your information that they are different.
EDIT my book calls for the case to be 1.315 with loaded cartridge with bullet installed in the case as 1.590 where do you see 1.2230 -
the 32WCF mesures 1.223 the 32-20 1.590 this lingth difference is just enough it will not feed in my 1892 Win.32WCF my rifel is in excelent cond.Im trying to use ultramax 115gr and they just will not chamber due to lingth only. these are flat nosed not round. if you arn't haveing trouble where are you getting your ammo? 0 -
I'm looking at Speer Reload manual#12 32-20 Win(32WCF) shows max case length @ 1.315 and max cartridge length 1.592 Are the measurements you are referring to the cart length?
Are you sure that the one is a 32WCF? The spec you gave almost could be a for a 32S&W long0 -

Cartridge nomenclature is often confusing & in the grey areas of understanding lies the danger of loading the wrong round onto a gun.
The 32 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) cartridge was introduced by Winchester in 1882 for use in the Model 1873 rifle. Most rifle makers of the day were loath to print another company's name on their gun even to describe the proper chambering. Thus the 32-20 designation for the same cartridge as Winchester developed & named 32 Winchester Center Fire (shortened to 32 WCF).
Your stated cartridge length of 1.223 (overall length) matches an old obsolete cartridge, the 32 long rifle which was a rim fire.
The 32 S&W long was 1.27 overall, the 32 Colt long was 1.26 overall. They were close to the cartridge length you mentioned but not close enough to 32 WCF to be constrewed as "the same".
As already stated, the correct overall length for the 32 WCF (aka 32-20) is 1.59.
When ever ANY gun will not functiom properly with the amunition as marked on the gun, STOP - DO NOT SUBSTITUTE - DANGER - have a gunsmith troubleshoot & test fire before proceeding!

The "32 W.C.F." and the 32-20 are the exact same cartridge (as several other people have stated). When it was introduced in the year 1881, it was referred to as the "32 W.C.F."... .32 caliber, loaded with 20 grains of black powder. In later years, it was referred to as the "32-20". In all cases, Winchester marked the barrels of the various models it was chambered for as "32 W.C.F." (e.g. Model 1873, Model 1885 Single Shot, Model 1892, Model 53, Model 43, and Model 65)0 -
Some older rifles having chambers cut for black powder bullets have throating cut for the original bullet style. As such, the rifling comes very close to the case mouth.
Modern bullets may have a band outside the case or have a curvature other than that of the original bullet. This will cause the bullet to engage the rifling before the action is closed.
If this is the case, the rifle chamber throating needs to be altered to accommodate the new bullet profile by reaming or you need to use only original profile bullets.
My 44Mag 92 wont feed bullets having OAL greater than factory ammo without grinding and welding alteration to the feed guides. This may be your problem.
