Optics for a Stag Arms Model 2T

On a whim I just purchased a Stag Arms Model 2T. I figure to enjoy it at the range as well as keep it on hand for home defense. It has sights, (A.R.M.S. 40L front post & an ERS flip up rear sight) but the dealer recommended I consider a EOTech 511 or 512. With little knowledge of options I decided to hold off and ask the forum for advice and/or recommendations. I watch my money but am usually willing to spend additional funds to maximize utility. What do you guys think?

    Well I have two EO Tech 512's and and have to say they are great sights. I bought one 550 model because I was desperate for a red dot to go onto a rifle, but unless you are gonna be getting a NV device for use in conjunction with your eotech the 512 model is all you need. the 512 has a 600 hour battery life with regular AA batteries, 1000 with lithium AA's. When you use An Eotech in conjuction with the rear sight aparture it really shines out at 300+ yards.

    The 511 is smaller, and is a good choice if you only have the flattop rail space and you want to use a magnifier.. The M-4 style delta ring can cause problems if you try to mount a EOtech to far forward. it has a 500-600hour battery life.

    I have 2 Aimpoints right now, a comp1 and a comp3, they both have 3moa dots, I think. and the M-3 has a 50,000 hour battery life, but realistically it has about 10,000-20,000 hours if you use it alot. I'd recomend it over any other red dot sight except the EOtech And that is because they are both awsome.. But I'm personaly actually starting to like the Aimpoint over the Eotech.

    A small low variable magnification illiminated reticle scope is also a good optic for a AR-15 carbine. like a 1-4x24 or 1.5-5x24.. Burris makes some good 30mm maintube scopes that would be a good choice. The 1.5-5x24mm leupold vx-III illuminated dot reticle hunting scope is another. Though with leupold the reticle lighting system only works in low light. The AR specific (MR/T,XTR) scopes are kinda pricey but you can get regular hunting scopes with most of the same options for houndreds less from the same makers. these scopes i am talking about will run about the same price as a aimpoint CompM3.

    Thanks for the input. The Trijicon Acog looks appealing but that's a fair amount of money. At this point I think I'll hold off and try to fatten up the rathole stash.
