English Double?

I am seeking information on a 12ga. double SXS which is marked
Vaughn Strand London. It has proof marks but I haven't found exactly which country made them. I certainly will appreciate any helpful info on this shotgun. Proof marks are too small to photograph.

    So far you've told us that it's:

    - 12 ga.

    - SxS

    - Vaughn Strand London

    None of this will get you much unless there is a little in the books about gunmakers addresses.

    It's the proof marks that tell most of what's available as far as makers are concerned.

    This is an example of what can be done with small proof marks and maker's marks:

    Most digital cameras today can make decent pictures in a macro mode but the details of the process will be in the manual for the camera. Good lighting can be had outdoors or with some simple lighting from a fluorescent lamp. If the exposures run longer than what you can hold steady, use a tripod or some other method of steadying the camera.

    Just went thru Boothroyds Book of English Makers, and find No mention of Vaughn Strand...If You will Post Photos like NONONSENSE said....We might be able to be of some help to you.....Best

    The "Strand" is the name of a famous business/commercial street in London. Most likely "Vaughn" was the retailer/outfiter who sold the shotgun. It's not uncommon to find older high end, British sporting guns, marked with the name of the store that sold them.

    I found this address on a Google Search..There were several mentions of Strand Gunmakers... also title 'The Gunsmiths Index' compiled by Ann Spiro.....Let us know what you find out......Best....
