Marlin 39a Year?

I just bought a marlin 39a ser. # 175000 with a "c" or "G" prefix can anyone tell me about what year this was made? Thanks

if G I think 1953 if C back up one year for each letter. 1949

Sorry misread my info the other 2 guys are correct.

Couple of letters not used- I Q and O.

While this is for a 336, also works (more or less) for 39As

A 39 (not a 39A, a 39) with letter S indicates made for modern Hi-Speed 22 LR ammo, not a year code

Looking with a glass it is a "G" so the year must be 1950. Thanks for the info.

I just picked up a Marlin 39A with the serial number AC 134xx. Any ideas what year this was made? It shoots pretty good, by the way.
