Federal Hydroshocks?

Good afternoon, I would like to ask what ever happened to Federal Hydroshock ammunition? I hardly ever see or hear anyone ever using it anymore. Is there something I should know before I go and purchase a fresh supply of ammunition? Thanks.

    Other new stuff has come along and sort of upstaged it, but nothing wrong with it, it is just an older design.

    No it is an older design and some reports show that it did not always reliably expand.

    I use Gold Dots from Speer. Great ammo.

    Nothing is perfect, but it depends on which reports/stats you read and what you are shooting at. If I was a cop and thus may have to shoot through car glass or car doors, I would not carry it as it reportedly does not do real great there. For face to face CCW work, it should be fine. That being said, I personally carry Corbon DPX in my 40s and either DPX or the old 115 grain +P+ load in my 9mms.

    Any hollow point is better than hardball.

    Its decent, expands reliably. I'm still a bigger fan of Winchester STHP and even Remington Express JHP. As long as it doesn't ricochet off a hard surface after either over penetrating a target or missing it all together. Thats kinda the point of a JHP. The good thing about the Hydra shock was the point in the middle kept things like drywall or thick close from filling the hollow cavity and preventing expansion.

    No he is right. A good jacketed hollowpoint is better than the same round in FMJ.

    I would take a 9mm Gold Dot over a 45acp hardball any day. The Gold Dots expand into a 69 caliber.
