Opinion on a AR upgrade
Ok I am needing on a opinion on a suppressors. More in tne lines should I buy one before I can not anymore. The problem is I am tight on money right now, but in the state I live in you dont have to have a class 3 to own a automatic or suppressors. I would really like to buy one before I cant own one in my state. But the problem is it is going to cost me from 1,000 to 1,500. What would you guys do. P.S. I cant use my credit card (maxed out)

I don't think your logic holds up.
First, you have no reason to assume that NFA items will be banned in your state. And, if NFA items are banned by FEDERAL law, then it won't really matter what your state law says.
Second, if your state decides to ban certain items, they don't have to "grandfather" in those owned before the ban. They can just say that they are all contraband & have to be turned in for destruction.
The last thing I want to do is offend you, but the father in me brings out "tough love": Once you get past the basics of self defense, guns & accessories are just toys; if your credit card is maxed out, you need to get your financial affairs in order before spending so much money on something you really don't need.

Well as NM said you have a few issues to work out.
First off you need to do a lot more research into how the NFA works and what is involved in LEGALLY owning a NFA item both at your state and federal level. In NO states (were it is legal to own NFA items) do you have to have a "Class 3" to own NFA stuff, "Class 3" is to Sell them. You will HAVE to find a Class 3 dealer in your state to do the transfer.
Why do you think your state is going to ban them? Is there something going on in your state dealing with NFA items?
I dont know what .223 suppressor you are looking at but you can EASLY get some of the best on the market for just under $1000 including the transfer.0 -
Thanks for the help, well in kansas you can own a automatic or a suppressor as long has you, have a written letter from the sherif, ATF checks you out, and yes I have to have a class 3 sell it to me. There are also fees that must be payed I know one is 200.00. I have cash saved on the side for just in case stuff , It question was more for is it worth it becuase I am going to have to buy a new barrel for the ar to make it use the suppressor. 0 -
More tough love [B)]
Pay off the credit cards and get your financial affairs in order before buying additional toys. I hope you don't have a wife or kids counting on you to put a roof over their head and food on the table.
And people wonder why there is a record high number of home foreclosures going on.0 -

Well this is half true. If you buy a NFA item as an individual you need to get 2 sets of finger prints taken on ATF cards, 2 passport photos, and get the head of the LEO agency that you are in sign your Form 4 prior to submitting it.
If you do it using a Trust or a LLC all you have to do is fill out the Form 4 and sign it.

Each transfer of an NFA item to a non FFL/SOT holder will cost $200 that is paid to the ATF (the exception is transfer of AOW which is only $5). The only other fees will be for the finger prints/photos, or the set up of the trust/LLC if you go that route. If you order from a stocking dealer there should be no charge from them but if you order from an out of state dealer and have it transfered to your local dealer there is usually a $50-$150 charge from them.

Is it worth it is up to you. Have you ever even heard one? While quiet enough to shoot without ear plugs they are far from quiet. What do you want it for? What do you expect it to do for you?
Why do you need a new barrel? What is wrong with the one you have now?0 -
The AR suppressors I've heard make plenty of noise but have a different sound.
If you are able to go through with the purchase, your AR barrel can be removed and machined to fit the suppressor.0 -
