22 s,l and lr vs. 22 lr

Could anyone tell me if there is a difference in chamber dimensions in rifles marked as 22 LR as opposed to those marked 22 s, l and long rifle. We have been finding much improved accuracy using the cb rounds in rifles chambered for 22 s, l and lr. I recognize the fact that the cb rounds do not develop enough pressure to operate auto rifles. The 2 rifles we have tried them both in are a CZ 452 bolt and a Marlin 39A. The cz will not shoot a decent group with the cb round and the 39 A (which is marked 22 s,l or lr) shot a 1 1/2 in group. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

    Might be because of the twist rate is different between the 2 rifles and also the marlin most likely has MICROGROOVE rifling unless it is a 40+ year old marlin.

    I also fired CB rounds in a Marlin 39A with excellent accuracy, and with poor accuracy in a CZ452. The CZ, however, will shoot less than 1/2 MOA with .22LR.

    I believe that the accuracy difference with CB ammunition was due to the fact that the CB's were close to spent in 24" of barrel, but were still exiting from the Marlin at a relatively uniform velocity. In the 25" barrel of the CZ452, about half of the CB's would not exit, but would lodge in the very end of the barrel, and would have to be pushed out. The velocity of those which did exit had to have been erratic, everywhere from just above zero velocity, to an unknown degree higher. Because the CB's were very problematic in the CZ452, all use of them in this gun was discontinued, and I would not recommend that anyone use CB's even in 24" barrels, without checking for a stuck bullet after each shot. One inch of barrel length is not a great deal of difference, and if problems showed up in just that inch, lot-to-lot variations in ammunition could produce the same result even in shorter barrels.

    Under NO circumstances should anyone ever try to shoot a stuck bullet, or other obstruction, from a bore.

    I have also read that Subsonic ammo (which CB is) can be more accurate. It has something to do with the bullet not traveling, transonic I believe was the term used. I am not way up on that part but gives you another place to start looking for info.

    All .22's seem to shoot different with different ammo. What works well in one gun may not work as well in another. You need to test as many as you can.
