Colt .45 question
I have a Combat Commander in nickle satin, wraparound black Pachmayer grip. Ser # is 70SC8005x (late '70's?). Any guesses as to what I should sell it for? It was my Dad's - long passed away - and I want to get rid of it (I have other handguns of his that I'm keeping for sentimental reasons).

Depends on condition so pictures would be very helpful. The books say the Combat Commanders in satin nickel are rare but I've seen a number of them in the past couple years. You can also check the auction side to see what they have sold for there. I've had some recent experience with them as I traded one to a dealer in 95+% condition and he sold it for close to $1000 which seemed high to me; but it sat for six months before it sold. I've seen a couple for sale in the $800 range at gun shows. Hope that helps a little. 0 -

I agree with Highpower. Anywhere from $800 to $1000 and maybe more. The Satin Nickels are not really rare, but the are not seen alot.
I have seen maybe 3 or 4 at auctions in the last 3 years. I have one I bought back in the 70's.

...Lefty is in the ballpark, around $8-$1,000, if all is original, the grips on one in the pic are not correct...internals/slide release/mag catcth/thumb(lock)safety original? If not original, closer to the $800+/-. The Satin Nickle finish is not a very durable finish, so don't go banging it around. If the gun has any disscoloration, sctratches/dings, you can correct that, cheap.
...If the nickle is not scratched/dinged thru to the copper base metal, glass beading can bring it back to a new finish look...someone that is GOOD and beads guns, not lawn furniture, bicycles...for the low cost, worth doing.

Yes, I think it's all original. It looks more like Lefty's photo (the silver one), but the grip is checkered rather than grainy texture. No dents or dings or anything.
What's a good way to sell it? Go to local gunshops??0 -

...ORIGINAL also means the grips, those ain't original to the gun as it left the factory...any paper work/hang tags/warranty card/box etc...will help too, can add an easy $100+ to the price. It could have left the factory w/any of about 3-4 kinds of grips, and either silver or gold medallions, and that pair, ain't a pair Ive ever seen.
ALSO, now that I look close...from the pic, bad angle and only one side...looks like something is up with the grip safety.

(1)Just make sure the buyer has an 03 or an 01 that will accept a gun from an unlicensed person...and the gun is legal in buyers State; but then you can add the usual (2)disclaimer about no sales to Commie-Fornia, if you like...and the "buyer is responsible for KNOWING their local/State laws restrictions regarding this firearm".
...I take it you don't have an 01, so, you have to ship another carrier other than USPS...and it will run $50-$80 bucks to the lower 48...unless you have an 01 that will ship it for you at a better rate since they can ship USPS based on package weight only...which in turn should eliminate #1 & #2 for you also.
AUCTION side would be your BEST BET to get the most for it unless you have a local Newsgroup or such...the "shop" route will get you the least...[;)]

That's a photo I found by Google images. I'm lousy with a camera, and I figured that one looked close. Sorry for confusion.

You mean, people here, took the time and made the effort to value your Colt...and it is NOT a pic of YOUR gun???? Hell, I don't believe you did this.
...I for one am insulted and feel freakin' used by someone that doesn't give a true damn about someones help...unless it can help make them a buck, which is ok IF thier up front about it.
You dude, just USED everyone here, for that one purpose, and couldn't even man up about it and would NEVER have mentioned the fact that the pic was NOT your gun but a "stock" type pic unless I had not mentioned what I did.
