1x variable scope?

my hunting pal has a lot of trouble with eye relief and field of view, and has muffed chances at big bucks because he couldn't find them in his scope even at 3.5 power. i've tried coaching him in various ways. does anyone know of variable scopes that begin at 1x? I've suggested aimpoints etc, but since he hunts in kansas he does need some magnification available. but 1x available on the low end would be nice too. like a 1-6X. not 1.5X, i know those, but true 1x (or zero as some say)

    A 1.5x is probably as close as 1x as you can get because when looking down a tube, the image is decreases in size. You need to magnify it to 1.5x to get a 1x image.

    Have you looked at the red dot type of sights?

    I have seen 1x in a fixed power scope, but never in a variable. 1.5x and 1.75x are the smallest I have seen.

    leupold makes a vx II 1-4 * 20mm
    I have it on my 9.3mm mauser

    he needs to practice ALOT more

    I also use several Leupold 1-4s, but it is actually a 1.6-4. A true 1x is very expensive and difficult to make, you have to get into high end scopes like this one:

    Burris makes a 1-4 and a 1.5-6 in the Euro Diamond line, a 1.5-6 in Signature Select line. Sightron makes a 1X fixed in SI and a 1.25-5 in SII line. I recommend both manufacturers.

    Just read in the American Rifleman that Nikon has three: a 1-4x x 20 mm Manarch African in a 1" tube and two 1.1-4 x 24 in 30mm tube.

    yes i have suggestted red dots.
    will pass on your suggestions and check out scopes noted. i like my 1.5x6 a lot. at least his confidence is up, after being skunked 5 years running in 2 states he did shoot 2 bucks and 2 doe this year. he has reverse dominance, right hand/left eye.

    The Midway website is doing it's usual slow as heck routine but you may want to check out their variable muzzle loader scopes - I think muzzloader scopes are often 1X to comply with BP season requirements.

    I have a Nikko Stirling, 1X to 4X on my POF AR 10, I think Midway still carries it or you can get it through their distributor, Legacy Sports.

    I've got that problem, and its a significant one, since in order to see anything through your scope you have to close your left (dominant) eye, functionally giving you tunnel vision through your scope.

    It takes a little bit of getting used to but a low power front mounted (ie "scout" or extended eye relief) setup will let you keep both eyes open and can be helpful here.

    As already mentioned a 1.5x barely offers any magnification at all, and IMO its functionally equivalent to a 1x.

    This will still let you keep both eyes open when shooting.

    Alternatively, you could get the exact same both-eye-open effect with a reflex, dot-type, or holographic sight, though these are a little bit less traditional on hunting weapons.
