Winchester reference 1892
This is likely a Bert question, anyone's thoughts appreciated though. Is Renneberg's book '1894, the first 100 years' also a good reference for the model 1892? If no what is the best reference book on the 1892? Thanks.

Renneberg's book is, of course, specific to the Model 1894/94. However, some things that are covered such as special order features also apply to other models such as the Model 1892/92. If you don't already have Arthur Pirkle's "Winchester Lever Action Repeating Firearms Volume 2 The models of 1886 and 1892", it is a very good referance, though written more towards identifying and documenting the individual parts of these rifles. 0 -
Bob's book is specific to the Model 1894/94, and as such, it is not a good reference for the Model 1892. Unfortunately, nobody has yet taken the time to write a similar book covering the Model 1892/92. As of this time, the best book out there that discusses the Model 1892 is (as Schintzie mentioned) Art Pirkle's book. It however, does not provide the same level of information and pictures as Bob Renneberg's book on the Model 94. 0 -
I agree with schintzie's assessment. I have found that there are certain characteristics of the Model 1892 to which Renneberg's book on the Model 1894 will have a direct correlation. However, like all collecting niches, lots of hands on examinations of factory correct Winchesters will help you know which pieces of information will be applicable to both the Model 1892's and Model 1894's. 0 -
