IMR 4064
I've been reloading for about 10 years. Guns I load for are chambered in 22-250, 243, 257AI, 260, 7-08, 30-06 and 8x57 among others. Hands down the the powder thats given me the best results is IMR 4060. My only issue is it doesn't meter well through a powder measure due to the long grains. Are there any suggestions as to what would be a good broad specturm powder similar to 4064 in a smaller grain or in a ball powder?

Perhaps you might consider changing your brand of powder measure for more consistent results. I had trouble in the past with both Lyman and RCBS measures with very light handgun loads. I tried a Lee Perfect Powder measure and it works great for the very light loads, using ball powder. It's really funny because the Lee is made out of plastic and appears to be a shoddy piece of crap, when you compare it to the Lyman and RCBS substianal made metal powder measures. 0 -
1+ on the LEE.
I love IMR4064. Probably the most versitile powder as it can be used in almost all rifles with good to great results.0 -
I use a powder trickler with all my rifle ammo. I get great results in 30-40 Krag and 22-250 with 4064. 0 -
My Lee also does very well with all types of powder. 0 -
Connellylawn; H4895, Reloader 15, and W748 have similiar burning rates to IMR4064 (not identical!). H4895 & RL15 have short kernals and W748 is a ball powder. 0 -
Connellylawn,
I don't own a Lee Perfect Powder Measure since I already several others. But I use a significant amount of IMR-3031, 4064, and 4895 with great results. Needless to say I don't worry about the granular length.
If you want a general use powder that's in Ball form, H-380 is a pretty good substitute. Bear in mind that you're trying to achieve generic loading for several cartridges and you'll end up with compromises just as you have with the IMR-4064. Use the Data Guide on the Hodgdon/IMR website, it's a fast way to reference several cartridges and powders.
I prefer Re-15 but it's a high energy powder and takes some getting used to especially if you aren't loading near 100% which you won't be. The Reloder powders have shown some distinct variations lot to lot so testing is mandatory when opening a new bottle.
