Bidding Question

This may be a dumb question but? I had a bid on an item today at 1:32 pm for $325. The next bid was for $330 made at 1:12 am for $330. This bidder's last bid had been on 3/7/08 for around $100 and there were many bids by other bidders after that and before my last bid at 1:32 pm today. My question is that if he had put in a bid for $325 at 1:12 am on 3/7, why did it not show up until after my bid today at 1:32 pm. When ever I have put in a high max bid on an item early in the game this will kick in whenever anyone else makes a bid lower than my max bid until I am the winner or out bid. I do not unerstand how this high bid made early in the game does not kick in until the end of the auction. What am I missing here?

    He bid low the first time and then set back and watched until the auction was almost over and the bid again you could have then bid higher then this bidder . If you have 3 bidders and say the auction ends at 12;00 but that last bid is 11:59 then you have until 12:14 to beat his bid then he has 15 minutes to bid higher and on and on Sometimes a auction is supposed to end at 12:00 and the bidding is still going every 14 minutes for hours.

    He had his bid placed by auto bid. Like you say, say when the price was at 100, he bid 350.00, and the increments were in 5. his first bid would have been at 105. Then when you bid at 325, it alerted you to being high bidder, then the auto bid kicked over and out bid you by 5. Auto bid neveer makes you pay more than you have to. Just don't use it on a dutch auction.
