Help identify this 2" S&W...??

From the sunny (and drought ridden) south [8D],

Help me with this 2" Smith that I can't quite peg.....It's the Bodyguard shape (hump in the rear covering 90% of the hammer) but it does NOT have a model number in the toke. The serial Number is 87xxx and the gun wear the flat latch and diamond wood grips on the "J" frame. The other thing I'm not too sure about is that the barrel says "Airweight 38 Special Ctg." but the frame does seem to be of aluminum.....

  Jim, I think you have a pre- model 38 "Bodyguard Airweight". Made in 1956, it would not have a model number stamped on the yoke as that started in 1957.
  
  The flat latch and diamond grips are correct for a 1956 gun.

  Sounds like a "Bodyguard Airweight" or "Pre-Model 38" that was made before 1957. Not sure of the serial number for the change-over, but I don't see how it could be a Model 38 without the model number stamped on the frame. (I assume you meant frame, not yoke.)
