remington 788 ???

My dad had a 6mm rifle back in 1973. I am guessing it was a new rifle but I could be wrong it may have been an older one. I have a picture of it and it looks like a Remington 788. However it has a stanless colored bolt and trigger gaurd and the steel area surrounding the clip is stainless colored. Just like on a Remington 788 the trigger gaurd and steel around the clip is all one piece and it is on the rifle my dad had.

The barrel and clip are both the normal colored bluing as on a Remington 788. The wood has a blond colored finish on it just like some of the 788s did.

Was there ever a 788 with a stainless bolt and trigger gaurd? Or what other brand of rifle might this 6mm be?

    I don't have a printer or anything else to load pictures into. Otherwise I would.

    The 788 was a very inexpensive rifle when it first came out and, as such, was often modified to suit a individual owner's taste. So it is certainly possible that your Dad's rifle was a 788 that had the blueing removed from the bolt, trigger guard, and magazine escutcheon. That would, of course, resemble stainless in a photograph.

    Then I'm out of ideas. The only other bolt action rifle I can think of that was chambered in 6mm (Remington?) and had a detachable box magazine was the Ithaca LSA and that was not made in stainless steel and looked nothing like a 788.

    The Rem 788 was made in 6MM. It should have Remington Model 788 on left side of receiver. Also, I believe the 788 was the only rifle Rem made with 9 locking lugs on the bolt. The lugs will be 1 inch ahead of the bolt handle. This model was introduced in 1967 and discontinued before 1984. This was a low cost rifle but very strong. The blueing may have been worn excessively and was polished to a "stainles" color. Bob

    Nope it definetely was not a 722. It looks identical to a 788, I have 3 of my own. The picture I have of my dad holding the rifle says it is a 6mm, I can't see the reiver to see what it says on it. It definetly is not a gun that had any wear or anyhting. It is a beautiful looking rifle.
