S&W 686 question

Good afternoon everyone. I was looking at a S&W 686 3" a couple of days ago and was wondering if this gun is considered too large/heavy for concealed carry? If so, what would be the largest/heaviest revolver to consider for concealed carry? I already have a J frame, but was looking to size up. I really am impressed with the new night guard line of revolvers. Any suggestions on where to atart my search? Thanks.

    What would make the cylinder bind/hard to open on a Smith 686 ? is it something I can check out or is there a problem with these revolvers that needs gunsmith attention ?
    It opens , but it's a lot harder than it should be to unlatch and rotate the cylinder out for loading and unloading .

    the 386 scandium is too cool to ignore. it is light as a feather with bigger capacity (7 or 8 shot, can't remember) that will be my next revolver. I have a 2 inch 686 and it can be carried but I prefer the slim lines of a semi auto and haven't worried about the weight

    Its up to you to decide which guns are too big for concealed carry.

    Whether or not a 686 is "too big" depends on lots of factors like how you want to carry it, what kind of covering garments you are using, your physical build, etc.

    Personally, I'd consider it too heavy/bulky, but there are certainly people who can get away carrying one.

    As to other choices of CCW revolvers, Smith has a zillion that *could* work. Any J, K, or L frame revolver could work.

    My own opinion is the 686 in any barrel length is too heavy for comfortable, all day carry. I would recommend the scandium alloy frame revolvers for carry. My every day revolver carry is a model 642, 5 shot, alloy frame, its so light, I don't even know I have it on. I carry Glaser rounds in it because if I only have five shots, I want each shot to be as disabling as possible on an attacker. If I am going someplace where I feel the need for more firepower, I carry an alloy frame mid size 1911 with 9 rounds of 45 caliber and two extra mags...that should be enough for just about any situation I may find myself in, with the exception of a mass zombie attack.
