    A well worn model 64 that someone cut the hammer spur off. Worth about $250 to $300. There were ~5504 made for the NYCPD and stamped NY-1

    Well, it actually IS a recognized variation. It was a special purchase by the NYPD for sale to officers for off duty use. Plus, production overruns were sold through a distributor.

    Police marked S&W's are interesting, & I know several folks who found it an inexpensive way to form a unique collection & exhibit. But, these guns rarely bring a premium, especially one that has been used as a hockey puck. I think that the seller has unreasonable expectations.

    $699...... That guy has got to be dreamin. It might be worth $299. It obviously has seen much better days.

    IMO.. The bobbed hammer detracts from the value. The 64 is basically the stainless version of the model 10 M&P revolver.

    The NYSP is New York State Police. I thought they carried the model 66, or 686 before they went to the Glocks? At any rate, if the gun was NIB with those markings, it would be worth more than what it is. As it stands for now it is an almost worn out model 64 that has some undesirable traits that no one in any other state except NY would want. Not sure what this ole boy stokes his pipe with, but it has to come from NYC.

    see that above the trigger on the left side...it says "NYSP"

    EDIT:

    Needless to say, that Model 64 that is the object of this post, is USED up, and nor worth more than $200.00 if he is lucky. Even if it says NY-1 on it.

    Sorry, I didn't make that clear.

    The photo I posted is of a M681 that tsr correctly identified as made for the New York State Police; it is just another example of a gun with police markings. Although rare (only 500 were made), it is unlikely to bring more money than a normal M681.

    The gun MFI asked about was made for the NYPD (the New York CITY Police Dept), which may have had a NYPD decal on the left side of the frame.

    Good advice already given.

    I'd also estimate a fair market value around $300, and it would probably make a pretty decent beater "house" or "car" gun.

    As to collector's value, not much since the condition is poor, and it lacks original box and/or other documentation.

    Compared to a similar non-marked gun, it might be worth a little bit more to someone who collects police pistols (and there are such people), but not much.
