Colt Pythons: collector's items?

I could have bought one in 1980 and I do not remeber the price but I see they are much more expensive now. IYO, will that trend continue?

    Yes it will; they are a high quality custom made revolver! Colt doesn't make them anymore and indications are they won't be manufacturing them in the future.

    Supply and demand...fixed supply and great demand. Probably the best pistol ever made by Colt or any other maker, for that matter. Sorry I don't have more than two. If you can get one now, buy it and put it up and watch it appreciate. Has almost doubled in value over the last five years and will keep going. I keep my 4" by my nightstand always. Good shooting!

    I'd take my S&W 19, 66 and 686 any day of the week over a Python![}:)]

    Colt and Smith DA revolvers have different manuals of arms.

    If you like one, you will probably dislike the other.

    I'm a rabid Smith fan, but I don't think that there is any question that Colt's Python is as good as any Smith ever made.

    There is just stuff about its' actual operation that I don't like.

    But, superior to S&Ws - I don't think so.

    i guess the 6" ss one that i bought from a pawn shop quiting in excellent conditon for $250 was a good deal?

    I thought they would be collector's items in 1980 but I needed to feed my year old son more than buy a gun. However the worm has turned and I can pick up where I left off. How do you value them?

    That was a steal for 250...even for a parts gun.

    There is no doubt that the Python outclasses any S&W period, and I too, am a S&W fan, but would take a Python or two more in my collection. For what it is worth, any Colt high end revolver, SAA, Python, Diamondback, or Anaconda will only appreciate in value. Same goes for any Pre-64 Model 70 Winchester, as well as their pre-war leveractions in 80 percent or better shape. But again...they don't make them any more...no supply, and everybody wants one...high demand, equals high price. Better than any stockmarket.

    One more item that holds their value is any transferrable Class III weapons. If you are allowed to have them in your state, you can't get a better investment. In the year 2000, one could get a transferrable M-16/M-4 for around 4 grand....now they are over 12k. Think about it...no more being made since 1986.
