Swiss vs Swedish??
Hi guys, im just wondering what's the general opinion between the Swiss k31 & the Swedish(model 1896 or 1938)Mausers. I've never shot either but have been told they are both very accurate, with usually very nice trigger pulls. Whats your thoughts?

If you have access to both of these, do NOT hesitate to get both of them. They are superb examples of firearms manufacturing at its finest.

Get a Swedish 1894 if you can find one, or an 1896. There are even 1896 target models, and boy are they fine. The 6.5x55 swede is an awesome cartridge, great to handload. 0 -
There's a gunshow coming up in Syracuse in about a month. I'm going to get something, but not sure what yet. I've been thinking a K31 for around a year now, but i just had a guy tell me about the Swede. Also considering k98/M48, m1917/p14, m1903/a3, mn91/30, maybe a M1Carbine, maybe another Garand. I have a Garand, LE#4mk1, LE#5mk1, mn m44, so... I already have 30-06, 303 british, 7.62x54. Would be nice to stay with a caliber that i already have, but, really been thinking hard about a K31 or a Swede. As you've said, and I've been told, they are great shooters. 0 -
Both are great well made pieces of firearms history. But, the Swiss K31 ammo is never going to be common, cheap or easy to find. Whereas the Swede 6.5x55 will be much more so. Even if you reload the Swede will be kinder in the long run. Persoanally I'd go for a 1938 but any Swede will be great as long as the bore is mint. I ended up building my 6.5x55 ultralite on a Yugo 25/47 action because I could not find a Gustav or other Swedish'96 action for the project without tearing down a complete rifle, which I wasn't willing to do...... 0 -
I have 4 of the m96 Swedes.
They are beautiful rifles, and very accurate.
Many consider the Swede the most accurate military Mauser ever made.
When you consider that there have been some 103 million Mausers made, and only 850,000 were Swedes, it is a rare gem.0 -
Both are great rifles. But if you want a K-31, grab one soon. The Milsurp ammo is awesome, about 50 cents a cartridge in quantity- and is soon gonna dry up, leaving you to use civilian loads OR reload- and it uses a hard to find bullet with an unusual shape- So if ya want one, get one and stock up soon.

I agree that you can't go wrong with either one as both are recognized as the most accurate of all bolt action rifles. Both were made the old fashion way in factories that really cared about quality with super materials and almost hand fitting. I have two Swiss and collect Swedes (over 30) and shoot them all the time. I prefer the Swedes as they are most accurate and ammo (6.5x55) is a bit cheaper. Both models are tack drivers and easy and fun to shoot. With the Swedes you need to learn how to read the disc on the stock to tell you the condition of the rifle which makes it almost a historical project. The Swedes are a bit lighter also easier to work on as the straight bolt is not as complicated as the T bolt of the Swiss. The little Swede Model 94 is hard to find, and a great deer/truck gun but the Model 96, while long, is the most accurate. My model 38's are not quite as accurate as the 96's. You can complete the Swedes by finding the semiauto AG42 which is also a hoot to shoot! All are really accurate and make for a good day at the range! Good shooting! 0 -

Modtodd82...if you really want to get into the Swedes in a big way (which is a lot of fun, by the way) get a copy of the "Swede Bible"....book by Steve Kehaya and Joe Poyer, The Swedish Mauser Rifles by North Cape Publications (www.northcapepubs.com). It has everything you will need to know about the Swedes with a breakdown of each rifle including the super sniper rifle. The great thing about the Swedes is that they are still available but the supply is drying up quick. So, now is the time to get in the game! Good shooting 0 -

...Sneak it in right quick, your at 10, I think. I hace a Husqavarna Swede M38 and 1918 M96 CG, both really cool rifles...sold 2 K-31's...straight pull bolt was too much for me...though they are smooth pulls, just "different, like the M95 I have, except the M95 is notoriously stiff bolt..luck
