Savage model 12 308 cal.
I have a savage model 12 308 cal rifle With Brown laminated stock,Stainless Fluted Barrel. It dont have the accu trigger & im wanting to know all the info i can get? What year it was made,What it is worth,what did it retai for, & is there anything special about these rifles? S.N. G037XXX on the same side it has sp7 with a 8 circled & below that is A402..... It has Leupold Mount & Rings with a Simmons fully coated optics Pro 50 2.5-10X50 WA Scope. I need all the help i can get. It is very very clean & looks like new,But im not familiar with these rifles.Me & my son are wanting to pick up Hunting & Dont wanna be took. I think the Accutrigger became standard in '01 so it would/should be at least that old. That style started to get made in '96(?) Best I can say is late nineties early two's. The real thing that matters is round count and condition of the inside of the barrel.
FWIW the rifle you have is notorious for shooting right up with some high dollar custom guns. That is what is really special about them. They shoot awesome right out of the box.
That gun retailed between $520-$600 when new. If it's in good condition it's worth $500. Check the auction side and see what they sell for. The Leupold mount and rings should be adequate. The scope you may want to move up in quality. It doesn't really have any resale value. Just a magnified sight that works for now is all I would give it.0 -
You can't put the accutrigger on older model 12s, 10s and 110s. You can get aftermarket triggers like the timney. If you send Savage an email, they will tell you when its made if it was made if its was after the current owners.
The optics aren't anything to brag about, but would work. They are excellent guns.0 -
Well i did find out the year of My Rifle From Savage Arms today & it was made in 2002. It is the model 12 BVSS & the cost of mine would be $70.00 less than the current price[:p] So i guess i can say with the bi-pod,Scope & mounts,Case,& the mint condition its in i got a steal of a deal. People that want to know about there guns i do recomend to have Patients & contact the dealer,Because there the real experts[:D] 0 -

I understand what the MSRP was back then. However, honestly, Savage needed some emphasis back then on getting these sold. Typically, you would find these for as low as $75-$100 below MSRP and sometimes you could get them for more off than that. Often I found various calibers in your model of BVSS for around $500.00 for a long while. It's only in the past few years they've taken off and are seen up around the high $600's-low $700's. I got my model 12FV for $339.00. That was 15% off of an already discounted $399.00 from $459.00 MSRP.
Anyways that being said, again,what you have there is an excellent shooter. you might try some Black Hills match just to see how good it shoots. This rifle is intended for varmint/target shooting so it is a bit heavy for packing around hunting. Savage makes other lighter rifles that are just about as good accuracy wise. They are the model 110 and they have packages with Simmons scopes as well. Although, I would at this point if I were you, Spend some money on some decent glass for your rifle. You might try their website; www.savagearms.com and look and see what all they have. Sooner or later you and your son are going to want to pack around your own rifles.
