Should I Trade ?

A freind of mind has a springfield 1911 A-1 that has had some coustom work done on it.He had a wilson stainless steel bbl.extended mag release mag wells bo-mar sights alum comp trigger stainless steel hammer compensator and a stainless steel slide release installed and maybe a few other things that he forgot to tell me.He is going out west this fall and need's a 30-06 I have an older win. made in the late 60's in that cal. that's been in the safe for the last 5/6 yr's I've got about 450.oo in that rife. what's anyone think about a trade he told me even up.

    How much does your friend have invested in the 1911-A1 ? If its more than what you've got in the 30-06,I'd say go for it.Even if its not as much I still say go for it.

    If he is that much of a friend, and he is not going out west to stay, then don't take advantage of him like that. Let him use your rifle and return it with a couple nice Elk or Mule Deer steaks. That is just IMHO.

    So what your saying is someone wants to trade you a customized springfield 1911a1 type for your pre 64 Winchester model 70 .30-06spr? Hmmm tough call there. Probably about even trade value.

    Search gunbroker for pre 64 and see what shows up. I see them ranging from $700 to over a grand depending on specific model (featherweight, etc) Apprently you can take that pre 64 action, and have a gunsmith put a precision barrel and a quality stock on it, and you've got a high dollar rifle (auctions on gunbroker listed $1250 to $2599) The cheapest loaded target model Springfield Loaded 1911a1 I saw was $700. Only problem I would say is, sometime when people put a buncha aftermarket "upgrades" on a 1911, specially if they do it themself and don't know what they are doing, they can make the gun less accurate and less reliable.

    He said he traided two rifles and a shotgun for this gun.Plus he has two more 45's he doesn't have a 30-06.He let me shoot this gun and it shoot's pretty darn good at 25 yrd's.

    I'd say if he wants to trade even up he knows the pistol is worth more than the rifle. Sometimes guys just build these up and shoot them some and never get out of them what they put into them. With very little use time in between. The Post '64 you mention brings a lot less than the Pre '64's do. If you had a Pre '64 then you'd be money behind IMO. As long as you both know what you're getting make a straight across trade. Agree, and stick to it, to trade back if he comes back early or doesn't go.

    My dad lost a Winchester Model 12 Pigeon Grade and a "friend" this way. Loaned him the shotgun to go hunting. Guy comes backs and says gun was stolen. Then got PO'd when dad made him pay for it.
    As far the trade, IMO it's really your call. I've made trades that in terms of value were poor. But I liked what I got more than what I traded, and was happy.

    It's a done deal and I'am happy and he's happy.He said he new that pistol was worth more than my rifle but he liked that gun and the scope on it.

    Oh wait, I didn't catch that, its a post 64.... Yes trade it... Unless you wanna use the action to build a match rifle with.
