unfired Win mdl 54

I have a set of NIB unfired Winchester model 54 carbine and mdl 54 rifle with consecutive serial #s made prior to 1936..I think they were made 1934. I was left these by my beloved grandfather whom won them shooting high yearly average in a local trap league when they were still being produced.
#1. Where can I get an honest appraisal done on them..the local dealer offered me $1500 for both guns. Ha Ha Ha
#2. Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to their worth?

    Needless to say, the pair is worth well more than $1500! That said, and what you neglected to mention, is the caliber of each. If they are chambered for 270 Win or 30-06, they will not be worth as much $$$$ as say a pair in 22 Hornet, or 257 Roberts, etc.

    You state they are NIB (New in the Box)... do you really have the original boxes and the paperwork with them? If so, the value just went up several more rungs on the ladder.

    Last item to clear up... there is no such thing as an "unfired" Winchester firearm. All Winchester firearms were fired several times at the factory to verify proper operation and conduct the Definitive Proof test, and to align & set the sights.

    I would really enjoy seeing pictures of them if you are able[:p].

    They are both .30-06 caliber and yes I do have both boxes and both rifles are still wrapped in that brown paper they used back then.In each box is a full box of Western Silver Tip ammo I don't know how old the ammo is or if it even came with the set he won but it's in there too.
    I do have a digital camera but must admit I'm not the swiftest at getting the pictures from file in my laptop to a website.
    I have no interest in selling the set but need to know a value to insure them for ...currently I have made room in my gun safe and I have an insurance rider on my homeowner's policy for $25K.....but I own a couple more old Winchester in there too (69A,43,12,and 6 mdl 70s under serial #700,000).
    "Pap" was a great guy whom took the time to take his boys hunting...they're all gone too that's how I came to own this set...came down thru my father and will some day go to my son whom is 26 now.

    There really is no way to say with any assurity what they are truly worth, but if they were mine to insure, I would set the value at $20K. The fact that they are NIB and consecutively serial numbered would most likely drive the gavel price through the roof if they were sold in a well publicized auction.

    thank you Bert for your time the difference in cost to hike my coverage is only around $4/$5K more of ins. think I'll run the entire pooptery up to $50K to cover my whole collection.

    After you insure them, be sure to stop by your local dealer and thank him for his "generous offer".

    I truly hope when your son receives them he values them as much as you, your father, and your grandfather did. You have a remarkable treasure in those Model 54's; both in value and heritage.

    Once you get past that technology issue; we would really like to see some pictures if possible!!!!!!!!!! [^]

    Yes, up close and personal pictures would be admired by many on this site. We have been trying to get Bert to make a calander for us, using his 1885 collection, but to no avail. These would be nice to see, as would all of your Winchester's.

    You are exactly right. I failed to evn consider the consecutive numbers.
