I don't think they are cool.

    Stoopid, in my view.

I can see where this can create confusion, but I can see where if it worked well, and was decently accurate, I would want to have a dedicated unit for this. You know, one to keep it on at all times. There is a lot to be said for a good short range carbine in a pistol caliber, that is inexpensive.

I put one of these rifle conversions on a 1911-A1 frame [complete]...
it was simple and works flawlessly...I am sure that they engineered them properly for the Glocks also.

...Units Ive seen around here, or here on the Auction side are around $300 or less, and are a snap to install on a 1911 frame yourself.

...IF, and I say a big IF...just felt the need to convert, I'd go with the 10mm, a VERY flat trajectory round and potent; 2nd choice would be a .45...nothing else. The barrel length on this unit is?

...Either round I mentioned, ANY for that matter, comming out of say a 16" barrel is going to pick up FPS a good bit, I know ballistic tables just show "slight" increase in FPS but...not so sure about the numbers they show.

...The first time I shot a .44mag round around 240grn bullet, out of a 16" barrel I was AMAZED at where it hit how LITTLE it dropped...I was shooting slightly downhill at the waters edge of a stock pond close to 150+ yards away...waters edge so I could see the round impact in the mud. I hit exactly where I was aiming, expected the heavy bullet to impact the water. The ballistic charts showed that round should drop 12-14"+ at that distance shot from a 4-6" barrel(?)...I don't think it dropped 1 or 2"...made me a believer in longer barrels with hand gun rounds.

...A 10mm, HOT 10mm round, or HOT .45 round with at least a 16" barrel would damn sure keep heads down at up to 200yds. I think...and kill the snot out of you...[;)]

Thanks for the info. Was considering this for a 45 (CCU barrel length says 16.5"). I may search the auctions to see if I can find one setup with the options I was looking at on the MFR website. New ones are a little expensive, especially when I don't really need it.

    EDIT

The only ones I found on the auction were as much or more for the basic unit as buying from the MFR. If any of you guys are considering this check the website link above for pricing before you pay the the same thing PLUS the shipping from someone on GB Auctions.

Not a way to get very popular with the hierarchy - and a lot of the Members - at GB.

Not sure why that would be the case, unless someone was specifically trying to take advantage of the "uneducated" buyer. Don't think that is the reason GB exists. If you list an item for more than you can buy it retail, don't be surprised if it does not sell.

We are in a capitalistic "Buyer Beware" economy, which I am all about. If you can list and sell your item above retail price here, or anywhere else, congratulations and God Bless capitalism. Just don't be upset when I use my freedom of speech to call you on it, publicly or otherwise. I would expect nothing else if I were the seller.

Chances are that this item is on such a back order with the MFR that the prices on GB are reasonable. I just said you should check the MFR first.

Thanks again to all who posted relevant, technical data and personal experience for this item. it was invaluable in my research of a potential purpose (as I will never be uneducated buyer and will be better educated by the vast experience I have encountered across the board in the GB forums).

What about all of the BLACK RIFLES and ammunition that is selling way above retail? Check out the Romanian AK's that $275.00 a year ago, now selling for 500-700.00, or the AR-10's that have a MSRP of $1100.00 going for over 2K, and the same with the AR-15's.

    TSR,

Agreed 100%. Everything is way high at the moment. Demand is overwhelming. I imagine there will be a lot of used stuff for sale in about 3-5 years (as long as we have the same gun legislations we have now) for cheap.

Ebbs and flows of the market. Gun MFR's are doing great this year (I imagine, have seen no stats).

Getting hard to go just shoot targets with the cost of ammo. Went to a gun show the other day hoping to get some sane prices on ammo. I was disappointed. Need to find someone local to reload for me...

The Mech Tech is alot of fun, I've had one for years and enjoy the heck out of it. They have some accessories available to make it a touch more "evil" looking and I grabbed most of them, but they really don't do anything to help accuracy. I've noticed the 45 ACP is very sensitive to ammo. Not for function sake, it seems to feed pretty much everything including my "mistake" reloads, but point of aim changes alot depending on 230 FMJ, 185 JHP or slow FPS lead types.

I doubt anyone "needs" the Mech Tech - but hell, after the first 5 or 6 guns what does need have to do with any of it I suppose. It's just fun and neat to use, especially with those round 25 round ProMag magazines. They actually work well in the Mech Tech.

Yeah, I was pretty much looking at it as just another toy to spend my discretionary income on, and do my part to boost a sagging retails sales economy [:)].

Would get some second looks at the range, so I may yet own one with the "evil" accessories you described. Thanks for the info on the 45 ACP ammo as well.

Imagine this post will be locked soon so thanks again all for the info.

    See ya on the range.

MSRP is a SUGGESTED price. Sometimes guns go for more, sometimes they go for less.

Its supply and demand. Sellers can. . .and will. . .charge what the market can bear. If demand is low, they have to lower prices. If demand is high, they can raise prices.

Its the same thing as ANY good or service, from gasoline, to cherries at the supermarket, etc.

Right now demand for ammo and semi-automatic rifles is at historical highs. . .hence the historically high prices.

Incidentally, you couldn't buy double stack Romanian AK's for under $300 a year ago. At least not retail.
