Shipping To California

Hi all. I had a question regarding shipping to California.

I was wondering if it is legal to ship to area code: 95765.

I am going to update my auctions to read, no shipping to California. It's just too complicated and I am quite new to this. However, this auction already ended.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.[/size=2][/size=3]

    Need some info on legally shipping mac 90 that i have for sale on gunbroker to c.a.My ffl will not but can i ship to a ffl there.The buyer is a police officer and can legally own this gun. thanks in advance. bob

    I don't know what CA law says
    but I don't need to.

    Federal law says that I can transfer a firearm to an FFL in any state. It is the responsibility of the FFL to determine if a subsequent transfer is legal in his state. Just tell the officer that it is his responsibility to make sure that his dealer is willing to transfer the gun to him before he bids.

    As long as you have a copy of the receiving FFL's license information from ATF EZ-Check for your records, & ship it in accordance with federal law, there is no problem.

    As long as he is a cop and you are shipping it to a FFL in CA that will accept a gun from a NON ffl you can mail it legally through the Post Office or UPS, Fedex. CA has an approved list of assault weapons and many versions of the AK are not legal--you can always call the FFL he gives you to verify everything is kosher.

    "you can mail it legally through the Post Office" Just to clarify, if you do not have a ffl you cann't ship a handgun u.s.p.s, it has to go ups or fedex 'next day' or '2nd day' (both pricey).

    Just because he is a cop does not mean he can legally own firearms denied to the general public. I beliieve a letter from the head of the department on department letterhead would be required in this case but that would be of the FFL he was picking it up from and not you.

    As LE he is OK (as in exempt) regarding handguns not on the CA "safe handgun" list. I believe they used to need a letterhead, as of last year or so they do not.

    The interesting aspect would be if the MAC 90 has a threaded barrel, it is considered an AW in CA - CA spcifies, among other things, an AW handgun as being any semi pistol, rimfire or center, with a detach mag that has a threaded barrel or a magazine well outside the grip - picture the KelTec PLR or the lowly Ruger Charger as an example. If the MAC 90 has a threaded barrel he'd need his LE boss's OK on letterhead.

    I don't know if there is some work related requirement. Some LE chiefs can be pretty lenient with their OK, others very tight.
