Ruger Hawkeye question

I'm a rank newbie on this board and usually I won't post until I've lurked for a while. HOWEVER ..... I am wrestling with a big problem with a couple very tiny parts that are missing from my Ruger Hawkeye, a single-shot .256 Winchester Mag pistol. It's a rare bird, only produced in 1963-64 and only 3300 built. Ammo for it is like hen's teeth. Anyhoo --- I'm looking for anyone familiar with the piece who knows something of its anatomy. I've got a bunch of questions about the missing parts and also some others that I can't identify from the exploded drawings. ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED.

    Welcome- That's a rare one! Might try over in the experts forum. Ther was if I recall a Hawkeye rifle, but a revolver? or do you mean a

    Me nether- I remember the hawkeye rifle. So maybe this is a version before the ruger single-six and black hawk. I am not up on my revolvers that well.

    It was only made for a short time, based on a blackhawk frame,but it's single shot. A quick look thru google tells me they are worth a lot of money.

    44 mag super redhawk was my first revolver. My brother and i both bought one together. I googled it and it does exist. It is very rare from i see...never heard of it till just now. cool gun i bet[:p]

    Rule number 2, hope that your missing parts are one shared by the old model blackhawks. What exactly is missing?

    FrancF, your photo is EXACTLY the right one. Mine has a factory-installed scope sight but it's otherwise identical.
    The parts I'm looking for are the breech block detent plunger and its spring, labeled SS-11 and SS-12 in the schematic. I've measured the recess where they fit and deduced the dimensions of both, and I think I can give these to a good machinist and have them fabricated. But I have just discovered another part and matching spring that may also be missing, and that is the locking plunger and locking plunger spring, designated SS-8 and SS-9. Do you have ANY idea how to get these parts short of having them fabricated?

    FBO others who have mentioned it, there is also a Hawkeye rifle, and even the person at Ruger that I talked to thought I was referring to that when I called a week ago. I don't know why Ruger would give the same name to two different products, unless they had forgotten about the pistol when they named the rifle.

    They might have thought it was too good a name to let die. A few years ago, when they had just decided to flush the .357 Maximum I tried to convince them to reintroduce the Hawkeye in .357 Max. chambering; thus salvaging their pride and investment in the .357 and bringing back the Hawkeye at the same time. Wasn't the first time they ignored my advice![:D][:D]
    If my memory is working at all well the .256 Hawkeye, .22 Jet Smith and .221 Remington all came out about the same time. The Ruger and Smith were all but DOA while the XP-100 had a few good years, then almost died itself until interest in silouette shooting and it's easy adaptability to other short cartridges gave it a second lease on life. Ultimately T/C's Contender pretty much put the final nail in all 3 coffins.

    Thanks for the referral. I do already have this -- it's still available from Ruger's website. About the only info that IS still available. I note they post all over the document that parts and service are no longer available from Ruger. Curiously, they post a price list from (probably) 1964 --- like $8.00 for a replacement barrel, $.75 for the plunger I'm looking for, etc...

    If you go to the link posted by Brier-49 there is an exploded diagram and parts list. The ones missing are the detent plunger, SS-11 and the spring, SS-12. Their function is to lock the breechblock rotationally. There is another plunger/spring pair that I can't find anywhere on the gun, and those are the locking plunger and spring, SS-8 and SS-9. I KNOW the detent plunger is missing because I lost it myself, but I can't figure out where the locking plunger is supposed to fit. This is the main reason I posted here, to see if there is anyone out there who knows about such things.
