best semi auto pistol

In your opinion, what is the best semi auto pistol & caliber (new or available older one) for conceal carry. SA/DA or SA (no DA only) and needs to be about the size & style of a Walther PP or PPK/S. Needs to be very reliable, well made, not ammo finicky and fairly accurate. I have large hands. You're opinions are appreciated!

    IF you are willing how to use it & carry it cocked & locked, the Colt Commander is a great choice in a better caliber than 9mm.

    It will fit larger hands better than the PP/PPKs pistols.

    2nd choice, if you wanted a traditional DA/SA, would be the SIG P228. Easier to carry than the P226 IMHO.

    Not a semi, but I think a J-frame S&W is a better caliber choice over the Walthers, and easier to conceal..

    JMHO, your mileage may vary, results not typical, these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA, etc...

    The one that fits YOU. The one that YOU can shoot well. One that is the right weight for YOU to carry. The one that is the right size for YOU to carry.

    YOU need to go fondle several and see what fits you. That is the big key. Once you have some that you think you like then the question is what one is "better". Most of it is a preference as pretty much all modern name brand guns are equal in reliability.

    While Bobski like the Sig I do not. The Sig is a great gun, but it does not fit me or point well for me. So for me the Sig is not a good gun.

    Yup, the one you've practiced with.

    Also the one that you will be able to *always* have, no matter how you dressed (well, except speedos at the beach). Accept that you may need to go smaller in both size and caliber in some conditions, or maybe go larger even if circumstances allow. A Jennings 22 with you is better than the slicked out customized 1911 you left at home.

    Not too expensive...but for consealed carry... a nice little Makarov in.380 is not too bad. I have a small hand and it fits perfect...I have found this gun to be very reliable and fun to shoot. I won't call this gun the "best" by any means...but I think it deserves more credit than it gets.

    Any SIG...my favorite is a P229 in 357 Sig.

    Large hands...but the size of PP? Humm...to meet all your criteria I would try a Glock 36. While not quite the shape of the PP/PPk, it has the reliability, easy to work on, will eat almost all ammo, and has that .45 knockdown. Need to practice with it a lot as it is a little beast to tame but once tamed, it does the job. Ammo is still cheap compared to other calibers like the SIG .357. It fits nicely with night sights and is easy to carry either sidesaddle or shoulder holster (which I prefer). One downside is that it only takes six rounds but with practice, that should be all one needs! I never leave home without it!
