Japanese Ariska Rifle
My grandfather recently gaveme an Ariska he got during WWII. It has a 40 stamped on top of the bolt and a 40 stamped on the side of the receiver. It does not have a crisanthumum stamped on top of the receiver but there are no grind marks either. My trouble comes with the burned on emblem on the side of the rifle but stock. It looks to be a five petaled flower with what looks like 2 flowers crossing each other in the center with japanese writing on the top and bottom. It also has a 144 or 744 burned under the flower. Can someone please help me with this

That's certainly a new one for me. If you go to gunboards.com/forums and scroll down, there's a forum devoted to Japanese arms. Try surplusrifles.com too. 0 -
Probably a jap trainer/// Without pics, who knows, but thats my guess..nambu 0 -
Nambu is probably correct that it is a trainer, however a couple of photographs of the top of the receiver, overall rifle, and that marking you describe would allow identification. 0
