Luger value
I have a friend who has just aquired a German Luger. The pistol is in good shape with some holster wear. The pistol also came with the holster that to me is in good shape also. The pistol is marked 1939 with 42 on the toggle. The grooves in the barrel are good also. It has all the proof marks on it. Is there any way to get an approximate value with this info. Thanks.

I have inherited a S/42 1939 Luger numbers matching and an extra clip, condition is very good. has as 3 digit serial # what kinda value I am looking at?? 0 -
Nickel Plated = "Shooter". Unless it's a rare all matching Luger, that would warrant be denickeled and professionally restored. It's probably going to be in the $400 to $600 range.
Nickeled Lugers have a strange bizarre attraction for some folks, even though their not factory original. They just love them as conversation pieces, i.e. telling folks how granddad took it off the dead body of the S.S. General, after he shot him, etc.etc.0 -

Givette here. Pictures below show [your P-08] that has been buff-polished prior to nickeling. If you decide to de-nickle/re-blue, it will not recover any value, even if it is a rare piece, due to the staatzpolizei safety addition. Its really not cost effective. Best, Joe

Sadly, the collector value is ruined. But the holster is a different matter. Again, condition is everything but if it is in really good shape, with the correct Luger tool, and a matching magazine, now you are talking some $. Are the mags numbered to the Luger? You don't mention the type of Luger but it looks like an S/42. Year? If the pistol is matched by year to the holster then that increases value. So, even with the Luger being ruined for consideration by a serious collector, if the other things are right, you could be looking at a value in the $800-1200 range. Correct and unblemished Luger holsters are bringing $200-400 now without tools and mags and correct Luger grips are bringing $100+. Good shooting! 0 -
That looks like a byf 41 or maybe 42. Shame because that is one of the last Parabellums made. Maybe in 75 or so years, being nickled won't matter as much since it is still a WWII piece and even nickled ones will be rare.
It still has value as a shooter or carry gun so six hundred bucks ought to be about right.0
