.45 Colt Mod. 1911 US Navy marked

I come into the possession of a .45 Colt auto that is reputed to be one a few that were given to the officers of the USS Roosevelt when it was commissioned. I would like to get in contact with anyone that has knowledge of Colt 1911 pistols with Navy markings. I can be contacted at andy144@live.com. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  The story is doubtful; giving away service pistols was as illegal then as it is now.

  first off we might be able to track with serial number. USN marked should be of the following serial number ranges .in other words you could have a NAVY slide on an army frame ETC .the navy serial s are 501-1000/1501-2000/2501-3500/4501-5500/6501-7500/8501-9500/10501-11500/12501-13500/38001-44000/109501-110000 / 232001-233600 and lastly 713646-717281 When was this ship began service[?][?].

  If it was the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB-42) it was under construction in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in December 1944.

  I'm retired US ARMY -- but did over 14 years US NAVY.. In the 1950's...I met many WW2 Naval Officers - who were given their Service Pistols. It was not uncommon... During the War -- most weapons that went into combat areas were written off.. If they came back - they went back on the books.
  
  On another note .. I need a NAVY marked slide for a 1911 NAVY pistol made n 1912.. The 1913 patent date will not work..

  The pistol has been checked by several lists and Collectors.. It IS a NAVY pistol - no doubt whatsoever..... The slide though is a lousy ARMY one :-([:(!]
  Still looking for a NAVY Slide....
  I have a bill of sale from the US ARMY -- from 1953...for one .45 Automatic Pistol -- from Korea....for $14.00 As many were bought like this as were "given" to Soldiers returning home... Been there !!
  Lived by MILLER FIELD in WW2 -- Saw many GI's with their pistols...
