Sure, if you want a 50 cal semiauto pistol. But in a revolver there are better choices.

That depends on how you rate worth? Many folks who feel the need for a larger then 44cal handgun have something in mind, like big bears up close. Others just like having something different and the brag factor that goes with it. What need/mission are you considering for? As a concealed carry it would not probably be a good choice....... 0 -

I probably wouldnt have said it that way..
Well I think it would be a good 100 yard cartridge for hunting mid sized thin skined game. Along with the standard six inch barrel group you can get a 14 inch group that will go along ways towards helping trajectory, If you are wanting a DE. I think its pretty easy to switch them out..
I dont think I'd go grizzly, elk, or moose hunting with it...0 -

I just sold a Desert Eagle in 50 AE for 1,200, got it in a trade deal and thought I'd use it for bowling pin shoots. That didn't work out too good, by the time I got back on target, the competion had knocked two more pins off the table. Went back to my 44mags, much nicer. Carried it as a road gun while elk hunting, never had a chance to use it. They are real spendy to load for, bullets are high priced, and you can't shoot lead in them because of the gas system. I will say that I put 400 rounds through this pistol and never had any malfunctions of any type, they are a hell of a well built gun.

I'm sure this might rub a few wrong... it's a VERY big, VERY powerful cartridge/firearm that probably has a "mine is bigger than yours" attitude about it but in the real world there are more powerful, better feeling/shooting bases (in non-semi-auto) that limit (specifically the Desert Eagle .50AE) it to a novelty firearm.
If you wan't "street cred" by people that hold their firearms sideways it is definitely intimidating... if you you want to do what you HAVE to there are soooo many options that make more sense.0 -
Hello, years ago I found someone on the web that also converted .44 Marlin 1894s to .50AE. I believe the case length and rim diameter is the same sizes or close enough to .44 Mag specs that it works. I am not sure how involved this conversion is however. 0 -
I actually met a guy who carried one concealed, and I mean religiously. Dude had some custom tailored cloths and garments just so he could carry the thing. Saw the guy in a t-shirt and jogging shorts one day, said "Hey man, where's your gun, dude lifted up his t-shirt had some kinda neoprene body wrap with the gun under his arm... His philosophy was that if he ever got in a firefight he wanted the biggest baddest gun he could get, and his eyes it was his brushed chrome .50AE desert eagle.
Personally I'm happy with my Glock. Its enough to try to carry concealed....0 -

Could you imagine being some villian behind sometype of punny cover and all of a sudden the 300+ grain .50 cal. slugs start blowing chucks and debris everywhere and then earsplitting reports.. I think said villian would change his mind about exchanging rounds, and run away unless he was on some crazy, crazy drugs.0 -
i have a DE 50ae,
it is an ok gun/round. THINK ILL KEEP IT[:D]
love to shoot it but im only good for around 50 rounds[xx(] and then i have had enough,
and go back to the old stand by (SW 629 44MAG)[^]
(glad i started reloading for it when i bought it, still have around 700 rounds loaded)[:p]
NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT MY 44 WOULD BE A PLINKING GUN SOMEDAY[:0]0
