Mossberg 464 vs Marlin or Winchester

I am considering buying a lever action to be used as a bush gun. Estimated maximum yardage shots would be about 100 yards. (Or maybe I am using this as an excuse to add a lever action to my collections, regardless.)
Can anyone offer a first hand comparison on the Mossberg 464 to a similar Marlin model or a Winchester model.
The Mossberg only comes in the traditional 30-30, should I consider a different caliber in a different brand? I have no issue using a pistol caliber (44 mag, 357 mag) if I can get an acceptable knockdown.

    I'd suggest a marlin 336 in .35 rem.

    For what you will pay for the Mossberg you can get a good used Marlin or Winchester.

    I'd stick with the tried and true, Winchester or Marlin.

    To me the Winchester Model 94 30-30 is lighter and handier unless you can find one of the Marlin 30-30's with the straight grip stock. Those I like.

    I agree with the above 2 posters, and will add that there is also Browning. You can get one that will work for shorter and longer shots in the BLR. The Marlin has the new 308, and newer 338 Marlin Express rounds too.

    Don't overlook the Savage Model 99. Most accurate lever ever.
