Taurus .327 Fed Mag Vs. Ruger SP101
I recently purchased a Taurus .327 Federal Magnum w/ a 2" barrel. I have yet to receive it (only bad part of on-line buying- you have to wait!) I posted earlier asking if anyone had info. on reloading this new round and BOY did I get some answers! As a matter of fact, GunBroker forum contributor RELOADER44MAG read my post and was kind enough to copy data for me that he had found previously. WHAT A GUY!
Now I have another question,
How does my new Taurus stack up against a Ruger SP101, for strength? I've read a lot now about these magnum loads generating tremendous pressures. I've also read more than once now that someone has inadvertently over-pressured an SP101 and later stated it "would have wrecked a lesser gun". I do not PLAN to over-load for this revolver, but, I'm still wondering if someone could tell me how it will perform?
I feel like a kid in a candy store, and my breath is fogging up the glass!

I have no experience with that cartridge, BUT...
the ruger uses a cast metal receiver and the Taurus uses forged steel.

I own an SP101 and it is built like a bank vault. I also own several Taurus handguns and they are quality manufactured also, especially the newer guns. Taurus (like everyone else starting off) had some issues when they first took the plunge into gun manufacturing. Duribility, I like the Ruger, but like I said both should serve their purposes for a very long time. 0 -
I've heard good things about Taurus' recent offerings, so chances are it'll do you just fine. 0 -

.327 is a new round Ruger and Federal came out with about a year ago. It's supposed to hit harder than .38 Special with less recoil than .357 Magnum.0 -
I am a Taurus fan. I have a PT-99(9mm), a model 607 7-shot .357mag, a model 605 5-shot .357mag in total titanium, a 24/7 OSS in .40 S&W, a PT 145 in .45 auto, a "Judge" in .45LC/.410, a "Raging Bull" in .454 casull, and still waiting for the Taurus .327 fed mag.
Am I missing anything?

Ruger SP101's don't like being overpressured either.
