navy arms model 4 / .45-70
Does anyone have anything to say about it? It is a bolt action 5 shot rifle and i found one that looks new and is supposed to shoot nicely for 295.00. I cant find one on the web and there is not alot of info out on them. Thanks Scott

Doe's it have a two piece stock? Does it look like a MK III Enfield?

Kinda looks like it, it has the bolt action with the saftey on the lt side and the clip is right in front of the trigger but the barrel is out of the stock probably 15-18" and i dont know about the 2 peice stock. I thought it would be easier to find a pic of it but i cannot seem to hunt one up 0 -
chances are its a converted enfield. these rifles are generally priced around $350 to $500 depending on condition. the last one i saw online sold for $475. 0 -
That name "Navy Arms model 4" seems to me that was a .45-70 made on the 8x52R Siamese Mauser about 25 years ago. They were on the market for a short time, only about a year I think. I saw one for sale at a show back then and didn't buy it because it was built kinda clubby, barrel was real heavy, bolt handle still stuck straight out, nothing nice or fancy about it at all.
All I wanted was the action and the price was about $250. I was buying the actions then at about $25 to $40 each.
I have a magazine here someplace that has an article in it about a well-known gun guy ??? who bought one and had it customized into a nice rifle.
It'll take about a week to find it, but when I do I'll bring it up.
Added- It was Frank Marshall, Jr.. It's in the Gun Digest 1984 Deluxe Edition. His was customized by McNutt and Lanham, weighs 10 lbs., so must have the original 24" barrel. There is no picture of the original by Navy Arms here, but there's one somewhere else, don't know where right now. Possibly in an ad by Navy in another book, showing the straight bolt handle, plain stock and big clubby barrel.
I take one like this when hunting in the rain, snow and clouds when you can see only 75 yards and scopes are no good.

Kinda yes, it has a bigger clip on it unless you dont have it in, and no scope it just has a set front sight with a adjustable rear sight. 0 -
I have one - not sure if it's their "Summit" or "Frontier" named version. Mine is made from an SMLE Mk III No 1 (or is it No 1 Mk III, never can keep that straight)and it's sturdy, feeds well and shoots fine. I put an S & K mount on it and shoot mostly lighter reloads mixed with the occasional Marlin 1895 level reload. Neat little gun.
And $295.00 is a very reasonable price.0 -

You say that the magazine (clip) sticks out in front of the trigger so you must have the one that Doug has.
They don't shoot rounds as heavy as the ones built on the Siamese, but are good brush rifles.
Not as pretty as the Siamese either, sorry to say!
