How does one tell a Winchester 52-B sporter barrel apart from a 52-C barrel?

  The date code stamped on the bottom of the barrel might be a good clue.

  To Bert, there's no date on the bottom, only the alignment dash and a dovetail milled 4" foward of the shoulder. The proofmark is directly on top and the winchester graphics are on the left side.
