Ruger SP101 hammer

I've got an SP101 with the spurless hammer. Is it possiable to convert it to a full hammer? If so how much trouble?

    All it takes is changing out the hammer. Its not hard, but unless your expereinced with ruger revolvers I'd recommend having a gunsmith do it. You can probably find a spur hammer either thru brownells or numrich.

    Personally rather than getting a hammer with a spur, I'd look at maybe sending it to cylinder and slide, and having them do a action job on it. http://www.cylinder-slide.com/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=catshow&ref=RUGERDA3

    A smooth consistant double action pull is amazing. My smith and wesson performance center 627 spoiled me to them.

    I had a trigger job done by James Willis http://www.willisarms.com/ on a GP-100 that also made a world of difference. He could also change a hammer for you, but the trigger job alone will make a world of difference in the double action pull.

    I guess this depends on what you mean by "rare", but the spurless hammer is a factory option, and I've seen several guns with it.

    I'd imagine its probably relatively popular as Ruger doesn't offer a concealed hammer version of this gun.

    The RARE one is both single and double action. I have one. Most are double action only.

    It relatively easy to "Bob" the hammer on the standard SP 101. As this would have the result of creating a spurless 101, that could also be fired single action. It would be best to check with Ruger, prior to putting out big bucks buying a 101 that is though to be a rare factory made, single/double action model.

    this variation is noted in the Ruger and his guns book .If interested I can look up the page, It was basically an experimental run. I'd hate to see the guy ruin a rare , collectible and valuable gun
