RUSSIAN SKS EXPERTS HELP !

Just took in a Russian SKS that has a detachable 20 round mag. All I have ever seen on these are the non detachable ones. NHM Sac,CA..No bayonette.. We are in NY where all this stuff is extremely hard to come by.. Any ideas on what this might be able to sell for ? All auctions listed here show fixed non detach mags..

    Russian SKS's are the most valuable of the lot and generally sell for more than any other from the Soviet bloc. Condition, as usual, is everything but a photo would help. I haven't seen any Soviet SKS's that take AK mags but I have several Chinese SKS's that do. Typically the SKS add ons that you mention can be picked up at gunshows but you have to watch out as the Russian SKS's generally take the blade bayo and most that are sold at shows are the ones taken off the zillion Chinese rifles. Good shooting!

    Hopefully the detachable magazine is one of the inexpensive U.S. made ones, that didn't require alteration of the rifle. If the rifle has been altered to take a AK mag, it will affect it's collectors value substantially, ( also falls under the feds 922 r compliance statue, regarding the modification of SKS's). As the original Russian magazines were numbered to the rifle, even with a replacement it will affect it's value.

    Best thing would be to go on the auctions and pick up original Russian SKS blade bayonet and attaching hardware. Also a Russian 10 round magazine. This would be the way to get the maximum amount out of the SKS.

    Finding the original hardware will be difficult or impossible. But, some customers won't care if it's been modified. It absolutely came with a 10 rd fixed mag; the Russians never, ever, made an SKS that accepted removable mags.

    Selling prices nationally are all over the place. An unmolested arsenal rebuild will sell in the $300-600 range; an original finish (blue) rifle could sell for more.

    If you can't test-fire it with the removable mag, at least sell it with a disclaimer, "We cannot guaranty that this mag will feed reliably." You don't want it to come back.
