colt sauer rifle
Anybody out there own or know something about the quality of Colt Sauer rifles? Been lookin one over. Pretty 'spendy' on the price. Are they worth the 1k price tag many carry? Accuracy? Please advise.

I just had a buddy call me, he was given a Colt Sauer 270 rifle w/leupold vari-x by a widow of a late friend. He says that the rifle is marked made in west belgium by Sauer and Sons. Very fancy stock with colt horse logo on the grip cap and recoil pad. Serial is CR34xx. Any Idea's as to how old this rifle is or any other info would be greatly appreciated.

They are superb rifles with fit and finish second to none. In a sense they are handcrafted custom rifles with the best bluing Ive ever seen on a production rifle, maybe early weatherbys were on a par.
The price you mention is the lowest Ive seen in a while. The short actions seem to bring a premium, I sold my 22-250 and am sorry to this day. The wood is the factor that pulls a gun off the shelf and some colt sauers had spectacular figure but some did not.0 -

I had a feeling they were good rifles. Most anything with Sauer on it, tends to lean my convictions toward quality. I appreciate your feedback!0 -

Next to finding a new-in-the-box genuine Sauer, this is as good as they get. I received one for Christmas in '89: cal. 30-06, excellent wood, a Redfield 3-9 scope with mounts, and a top of the line hard case....................Cost the Ms. 900 at that time. Would not part with it. I have heard they are real shooters. Let us know how you like it. Course you could also put that money into the stock market..........it goes 'bang' too.

I know a fellow that has the whole set. They are superb rifles to both look at and shoot. You do not find many factory produced rifles that have the looks like they do, and the accuracy, and smoothness. !k is veery inexpensive when you consider the 600-700 dollar tag on most Remington 700's, Brownings, and Winchester model 70's.
Speaking of which, I seen one of the new ones from FN's South Carolina plant. The fit, finnish and quality stink for the price. I would buy a new Savage first!0 -
I understand they are still made but are identified as "light" model 80 or 90, usually composit stocks. Think they can be bought for $600-700. I have an early version from the 70's, it's a 7mm Mag. You won't find a smoother action and it is very "pretty". Local gun show had one this last weekend in 30-06 for $1500. Clips can be pretty pricy. 0
