hi guys,, found a number on butt of a few guns worlds apart, in prep. to sell a 1942 swed, an 1900 swed, i was giving- i.d.,ser.#'s, an proof mark discriptions, i found a number under the butt plate on the wood,: 008 14 0820 , same # on both, o k both sweds,i'll by that, but i just [doing the same] pulled the butt plate off an 1890 mod90 winchester 22 pump gallary gun an found the same number "what does this number mean" [:I]as usual ... totally confused Mr G....

    I am looking for information on companies that make replacement/custom stocks for a left handed bolt action rifles. Thanks in advance for the help.

    to look at their cross references on Department store models and the underlying manufacturers. My eyes are old, but I do not spot a model 50. That usually means either it not in available records who made a particular model, or that there was no underlying model by the manufacturer. Some of the rifles made by High Standard for Sears had no equivlent model made under the High Standard name. Those usually don't show High Standard as the maker, but rather J.C. Higgins or Sears. I think it might be worthwhile to ask John Stimson at: http://www.histandard.info/ He knows a bunch about the High Standards, but also has good information on the Department store guns in general.

    The J.C. Higgins (Sears) Model 50 was originally manufactured by FN as a Mauser M98:

    You can still locate a few of the original stocks which would allow you to literally drop-in your barreled action. But you can also consider one of the many and varied stock designs that are made to be used with the Mauser M98, whether in wood or a synthetic.
