M1 Garand??

I have DCM, M1 Garand (Springfield) that I got from Anniston Army Depot in 1986. I have it up for auction on GB. The rifle looks "brand new". The parkerizing is perfect and is even on all visible surfaces. The barrel has a late 1964 date and is marked SA. I have fired it less than 20 times since I received it in 1986.
I have had several questions regarding muzzle wear and throat erosion. I can see and feel the rifling at the muzzle crown; it looks new and feels sharp. I don't know anyone or any gunsmiths in the area that has muzzle and throat gages. I have tried to put a bullet, base first, in the bore; it won't even start in.

I don't know how to answer these inquires except, No, I have not had it checked.
Is there any way other than with a gage, to check muzzle wear and throat erosion?

    Put a .30 caliber bullet in the barrel point first and take a picture of it for the auction. That will give prospective buyers an idea of muzzle wear.

    For the throat errosion you will need a gauge.

    .30 cal bullets vary in actual size.

    The "standard" for a "poor man's muzzle wear gauge" is a round of USGI .30-06 M2 ball.

    There is way to measure throat erosion without a gauge. But, with a rifle that is fresh from rebuild, most folks won't care if you have that or not.
