Bushmaster ar 15 front sight question

I want to remove my front sight ramp off of my Bushmaster AR 15 because I have a scope on the gun and ramp gets in the view of the scope (even with extra high scope mounts). It appears that the ramp locks the hand guard in place as well. Is there a way to remove this and if so would I need something to hold the hand guard in place? Thank you.

    That is a good post for doing a removal.

    If you dont want to do that you can do what my buddy did and just cut it off. Take a dremel with a cutting wheel and cut off the front sight just above the gas tube.

    The sight ramp also serves as the gas block. You cannot just leave it off. It can though be replaced with a low profile gas block. Some of these have rails to allow the installation of a flip down front sight or other gadgets.

    That is a good idea. How did he refinish the bare metal afterward?

    Magic marker or sharpie works ok. Wears off after use but easily recovered.
