Building a Ar-15 lower receiver
I am getting ready to build my first ar-15 lower receiver. When shopping around to buy one, I have found that some companies state they are for certain calibers. I am building one for a 5.45x39 upper. Does it matter what kind of lower I buy?

Your right and wrong. There are 2 main types of AR receivers and several "custom" ones. Some people say you can only build whatever caliber is stamped on the receiver and that is just not true.
The normal AR-15 receivers are used for the majority of the calibers including 5.45x39.
The AR-10 receivers are usually used for rounds based on the .308 round.
There are other custom lowers for dedicated mags like Grease Gun, Glock, M1 Carbine, Uzi, ect mags and are usually used in pistol caliber guns.
Top AR-15 upper
Middle AR-10 lower
Bottom AR-15 lower

This is the dealer I deal with most. It is one of the most awsome gun shops I have ever had the pleasure to deal with and I have been to many. I have been buying guns here for at least 10 years and would say maybe about 1/3 of my collection came from here.
I know, long story. Anyhow that is where I got mine and it was a couple-a few months ago. It is a DMPS but I know he carries/can get about anything. I dont know if he has anymore in stock, but his prices have always been more then fair.0 -
Just an FYI, the S&W MP15 5.45 upper comes with a stronger hammer spring to replace the standard. I did not install the new spring and have had no problems with 4 kinds of 5.45 ammo. But, if you're building a 5.45 only rifle, you might as well put the S&W spring in when you assemble it the first time. 0 -
