.243 factory ammo for deer.

Just picked up a Remington 700 SPS Buckmasters and am looking for a good factory (I don't handload) round for big northern whitetails. Shots are usually within 100 yards. Thanks in advance.

    there is a lot of ammo out there, expensive and otherwise. I have been shooting a .243 for years in northern Mn, and have always used 100 grn Remington corelokt. It has performed well from 25-200yds, and have never found a reason to change to anything else. Just my opinion.

    most of the ammo is very good.try some diff. brands and see what you gun likes.

    I second the remington 100gr pointed soft point Core lokt. It works well, especially when well placed. I also use the Barnes TSX 85 grain bullet as well, and that can be found in the Federal Premium lines, along with the Nosler Partition. For on the cheap though, it is the Remington 100 grain. With the Barnes TSX, you do not need the 100 grains you do with a lead core bullet. This thing will penetrate, expand, and retain on average 95 percent of its weight or better. They are very accurate in my 243.

    A+++ Rem Corlok, Hornandy 95 gr SST's has also worked well on Whitetails up to 200#

    In the very similar 6mm Remington, I have used Rem 100-gr Core-Lokt and 100-gr. Nosler Partition Federal Premium ammo. Both had good terminal ballistics and fine accuracy.

    moonshine is right on the money. Buy a few different brand to see what your gun likes and I would stay with a 100 grain bullet. Oak

    If you want a little flatter trajectory try the .243 Lite Mag from Hornady. They come in 85, 95 and 100 gr. bullets. All good hunting bullets.

    Otherwise, if what you're shooting works why change it?

    Would suggest the heaviest bullet your rifle shoots accurately. My Browning loves the 100 gr Remington.

    I had very poor results with Winchester power point ammo. Bullet performance was not as good as the previously mentioned brands. In my limited experience, the SST bullets open up pretty quick compared to the other two.
