browning lever action

i've never owned any lever action rifle. what are opinions on the browning? dependable, junk, ho hum? i like the idea of more efficient bullet and caliber choices with the magazine as opposed to tubular feed. if i bought one it would have to be scoped as my eyes aren't good enough for open sights anymore.

    Definately not junk. I had a .257 that was accurate and dependable. Sold it only because my tastes jump from conventional levers like the Winchester and Marlins to bolt actions. Ho hum or not depends on whether they flip your switch. Try one and see what you think.

    The BLRs are good guns. Well balanced, plenty accurate for hunting, lots of calibers to choose from. I have them in 223, 243, and 358. All are accurate and reliable; especially like the 358. Would buy one in 257 Roberts if I could find one at a reasonable price. Browning makes it in a takedown version now too that looks interesting although I haven't used one of those yet. I have scopes on all three of mine and have had no issues with any of them.

    strong action, dependable, and accurate.
    but one downside in my opinion: it's very difficult to make a lever action with a crisp light trigger, which is very important for practical hunting accuracy.

    most accurate lever gun I have[:D]. I have a few marlins in different cals. and a few winchesters model 88's[;)] and I would take the browning over them for accuracy[^]. No way are they junk.Oak

    Mine in 7mm-08. I like the box mag, shoot pointy bullets. Smooth action, good balance, everything is great except the trigger - creep and hard pull.

    i baught 2 a few years ago one in a 30/06 other in a 7mm0/8 somebody liked the 7mm better than i did so they took it my son uses the 30/06 he loves it wont use nothing butit he has killed lots of deer with it i liked the 7mm 08 it just felt right no hohum in the blr's they are not as accurate as my bolt rifles but plenty accurate to hunt with jb

    I have a number of them 308, 22-250, 7mm-08, 243,223, and a 30-06 all are scoped and I had the 30-06 cut down to 19 inches with an 11.5 degree inverted crown and man! it shoots 1/2 in groups at 100 yds and all bullet holes are touching each other.of course this is off a bench. in my book for a modern lever you cant beat them! jmho!

    The BLRs are nice guns, if boxy and bulky. Have you looked into the Savage M99? The M99 is available in .243, .308 and even .358win. If those cartridges don't do it for you then the BLR is the way to go as they are available in just about everything. Personally I like the history of the M99 over the BLR, this week......

    I hate to be negative...but the only rifle I have ever owned that mal-functioned was a Browning Model 81 Lever in .308 Win. I bought it for my son brand new in the mid-80's. It had constant feeding problems to the point where I took it back to my favorite dealer and traded it for another gun. To be honest, I don't remember ever hearing any negative concerns on these rifles...but my personal experience with this particular gun was not good. I have owned plenty of rifles but this one was not what I would call reliable!
