Refinishing 1200- pitting??
I'm currently layed off so I decided to refinish a Winchester 1200 that had water damage thats been sitting in my closet for 4 years. I'm not too worries about the outcome as far as looks go, but I'm curious how to tell if the pitting is severe enough to be dangerous. Is there a percentage of loss that is acceptable??

well if the steel is starting to flake it is questionable the rest is made of aluminum 0 -
Well the barrels for it are everywhere and cheap so anything off a 1200 or 120 would fit as well as the Sears 200.

Ok, I'll try to post a few pics tomorrow, I've already removed most of the blueing so it may be hard to see. I might look into a barrel though, everything else is cleaned up and good to go......except the forend won't come apart, and its soaked for 2 days now. 0 -
Not quite sure what you're talking about as far as cheap barrels go, the cheapest i can find is $150, most are over $175, I can get a complete 1200 for close to that, and for a few more bucks I could get a new 870. Where did you see cheap barrels at?? 0 -
keep an eye on Numrich. While they are out of stock right now they were selling them from 36 bucks to 50 bucks used. 0 -

I'd recommend bead blasting the whole barrel, its a great way to hide minor pitting, and gives it a rough matte finish. Then either parkerize or dip blue it. 0
