To Re-Finish or NOT

Hi All,
I'm considering selling a Weatherby .22 Mark XXII rifle which need it's stock refinished. There are minimal dings and dents, but the finish has "peeled" off. Maybe due to moisture. If I was to re-finish the gun would the sale value of the gun increase?

    I think it depends upon your skill.

    If your refinishing looks like an original factory job, it will be worthwhile. But, if it looks like something I would do, not likely.

    I suggest leave as is then the new owner can put the style of finish "high gloss or hand rubbed matt oil finish" that he wants I have a VERY early Italian built one that is oil finish before they went to the High Gloss like my other one I personally like the oil finish.

    If the rifle had a high gloss finish on it to began with, I would put a high gloss finish right back on it. Lots of buyers are put off by a peeling finish and you'll loose money in the long run.
    If you feel capable of doing it up right, by all means have right at it....

    Take that crappy hi gloss finish off that gun and put a hand rubbed oil finish on it. I dont know why browning and weatherby put mirror reflectivie finishes on there guns.[xx(]

    This winter I have refinished two gunstocks; a 4 digit 10/22 with a beatup walnut stock, and a Husqvarna 456 with a mannlicher. The guns didnt' need any tlc on the metal but the stocks, well left a lot to be desired, hence the bargins I got. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; put one of my stocks next to one of the beaters on the gunrack and guess which one will get picked up first. Oh yeah, redid the checkering to.
