1944 M1 rifle rear sight

I'm told that my Springfield built M1 rifle should have a type III lockbar rear sight

My current rear sight is a 'new' manufacture USGI sight, installed in a post-war rebuild at RIA

It also always slips down two or three clicks while shooting. Yup, took it apart, cleaned it, tightened pinion, still does it. Serrations on the receiver 'ears' are fine

I'm interested in getting the correct rear sight for it anyway, and now I have a legit excuse to find one

So my question is:

Apart from Gunbroker, what places are recommended for getting the sight I need?

    Many gun shows that I attend has gun smiths that only work on M1's and they have bunches of parts to help you get the right parts for the vintage of rifle you have.

    Since your rifle was arsenal rebuilt, then the T105E2 sight IS the correct one. I only put a lockbar on a rifle that is otherwise all-original WW2. But, do what you want, it's your gun.

    The only dealers who occasionally have lockbars are Orion 7, Scott Duff, & Bill Ricca. Other than GB, there's ebarf & the classified's at www.jouster.com .

    The rebuild sight being "correct" is arguable to my mind. "Correct" in the manner that it was rebuilt to that era's current spec that way. But it is not the original type sight, regardless. It is difficult for me to imagine that original equipment can ever be "incorrect". I do sincerely appreciate the help though [:)]

    Bizarrely, I never even thought of Scott Duff!
