Remington 597 Question
I walked into my local dealer today wanting to buy a 22LR Remington 597LSS. He bad mouthed them so bad I just thanked him and left. Does anyone have first or even secondhand knowledge about these rifles? They can't be as bad as he let on.

Hi I have a Remington 597 HB in 17 HMR and I absolutely love the rifle. I have a 1 1/2-6 power scope. The rifle is very accurate and functions frawless. I did replace the trigger with a valquartsen trigger. Really sweet. While I have had no problems I have heard of 22LRs that have problems...some work some don't. What was the guy in the shop trying to sell you...or was he just bad mouthing the Remington? 0 -
Seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes you get a good one sometimes a bad one. 0 -
It would be interesting to see if it is the magazine, I have heard it is. 0 -
I have had two 597s and the key word is Had. they both jammed every third or fouth shot. I spent the money and bought new mags and that was a waste of time and money, then I had a smith say he could work over the mags and take care of it. ha! I traded both of them of for 10/22s and have never looked back! good luck! 0 -
...I had one also. FTE/FTF were the problems. I used every kind of GOOD lube on the rods and anywhere else that looked as if it would make the damn thing work and...half the time the bolt would still NOT go BACK into battery after a shot; even with the round picked up and lined up and ready to go....mine NEEDED a forward assist BAD [:D]. Bought and ended up with 6-8 mags, no help...POS IMO...[;)]
